Corporate Lunch Catering in North York: A Drop-Off Guide

Toronto BBQ Catering 9 min read

Corporate lunch catering in North York comes down to who is in the office, which door will take a van, and what each label has to say. Toronto BBQ Catering matches hosts with independent caterers. We do not cook, deliver, staff the lunch or run a kitchen. Office lunch drop-off catering in North York covers a team meal, a client meeting or a lunch that repeats. Send the address, headcount and dietary counts on the free request form. We introduce an independent caterer. They quote, cook and deliver. Figures below are rough typical GTA estimates, not our prices. See the menu and price guide.

North York is part of Toronto. A weekday lunch in the building is a corporate office catering match.

Name the part of North York

A caterer prices the stop. Three kinds of offices show up on requests.

Yonge between Sheppard and Finch. Towers around Sheppard-Yonge, North York Centre station and the civic square, up toward Finch. Plan on a security desk, a host to sign the driver in, and an elevator. Yonge is slow at noon.

Don Mills, west of the Don Valley Parkway. Offices along Don Mills Road, and low-rise parks around Wynford Drive, Duncan Mill Road, York Mills and Lesmill. Many have a surface lot and a receiving door. The parkway and the 401 still add time.

Downsview and the west side. Wilson, the Allen Road, Sheppard West and the streets around Downsview Park. Vans often use a front door. Confirm where they may wait.

Steeles Avenue is the north boundary. East of Yonge and north of Steeles, use the Markham office lunch guide and Markham. West of Yonge, use Vaughan. Victoria Park Avenue is the line with Scarborough. A Scarborough postal code is not this lunch.

Count the people who will eat

Count people on site that day, not the lease. Add clients who confirmed, and drop anyone at another site. A staff list over-orders for a hybrid office.

A boxed lunch is one box per person. For platters or a buffet, ask if they add a little extra and whether leftovers may stay. Name the day you lock the count.

Write restrictions as counts. A guest who needs halal food and a gluten-free main is one meal with two labels, not two meals. “A few vegetarians” is not a packing number.

How far ahead to send it

We do not hold dates. The caterer holds one only after you accept their quote.

A plain sandwich or rice box can sometimes be quoted quickly. Halal meat, a separate gluten-free container and a nut-aware box need longer so the caterer can shop and label. Week one of a recurring lunch needs the same notice as a one-off. If the date is close, send it and offer a second day.

A summer staff barbecue or a holiday party is a different job, and those dates fill earlier. See how far in advance to book catering in Toronto.

Boxes, platters or a buffet

A quote for open pans is not a quote for labelled boxes.

Individual boxes

Use boxes for desks, a client meeting, or a team on more than one floor. Each box should name the food and show the dietary label. Ask if cutlery, a napkin and a drink are inside.

Platters and trays

Trays suit one boardroom, not the whole office. Ask for serving utensils and the same labels you would put on a box. Shared platters are a poor fit for a nut allergy or a gluten-free meal. A sealed box shows it was packed apart.

A buffet in one room

A buffet fits an all-hands in one lunchroom. That is more common in a Don Mills or Downsview office than on a tower floor. Ask if stands, fuel, spoons, plates, napkins and a gear pickup are included. Some buildings allow pans and ban gel fuel. Ask the building, and put the answer on the request.

Most weekday lunches are drop-off. Your contact signs the driver in, and the food is left. Staffed service costs more. Use it when nobody on the team should run the line. Many offices ban a grill in the lot. On-site grilling versus drop-off compares the two. For barbecue, use the corporate BBQ guide and corporate BBQ catering.

Labels people can trust

The label has to be on the package in someone’s hand.

  • Halal. Whole order, or only some guests. Mixed service needs separate pans, utensils and labels. Skip pork when the order is mixed. Halal catering is the match. Halal BBQ catering covers the same split on a barbecue menu.
  • Vegetarian and vegan. A real main, not the side vegetables. Say if it must be vegan, or if dairy and egg are fine. Onion and garlic are in many sauces. Name that limit if a guest has it. See vegan and vegetarian catering and the vegetarian and vegan BBQ guide.
  • Gluten-free. Ask about soy sauce, buns, gravy, naan and dessert. Ask for a separate container and its own utensil.
  • Nut-free. “No nuts in these boxes” is not a nut-free kitchen. Do not call the lunch nut-free unless the caterer has said so in writing.

Name the cuisine as a request, not a menu from us. Sandwiches, South Asian, Middle Eastern, Chinese or barbecue are all fair to ask about. See South Asian and Indian catering when that is the meal.

A window, not a clock time

Food for a noon meal should be in the room before noon. Ask for a range, often 11:15 to 11:45, and tell the building.

The 401, the Don Valley Parkway, Yonge, Allen Road and Don Mills are busy late morning. Ask how hot food is packed if sign-in runs long. One person, with a mobile number, should be downstairs before the van.

Docks, lobbies and elevators

Ask the building, then pass the answers on.

For a Yonge tower, ask if the van uses a dock, a ramp or a visitor stall, how long it may stay, and what identification the driver needs. Ask which door and floor, whether a freight elevator is booked ahead, and if a host escorts from the desk. In a residential tower, ask if the concierge takes food or the host must meet the driver outside.

For Don Mills, Lesmill or Downsview, ask which door is receiving, whether a stall is held, and if a trolley can cross the lobby. A low building may have stairs and no freight elevator. Ask if chafing fuel is allowed, and where empty pans go if the caterer does not stay.

A lunch that repeats

Set the weekday, the arrival window and a cutoff for the headcount. Thursday for the next Tuesday is a rhythm you can propose. The caterer says what they will take. Send who is in, not a copy of last week. Keep one format and rotate the main.

Nothing is signed with Toronto BBQ Catering. Run a trial week, then hire them if it works. They invoice you. We do not invoice or cook the meal. If accounts payable needs a legal name, ask on the thread before week one.

A Yonge floor and a Don Mills site are two stops, with different doors and sometimes a different minimum. A cancelled week, and any minimum, belong in their quote.

What to ask before you compare prices

We do not set prices. As a rough typical GTA range, caterers often quote drop-off around $18 to $35 per person, staffed service about $35 to $90, and a live grill, only if the site allows one, around $40 to $75. That is Canadian dollars, before tax. A small order, a special menu or a long drive can sit outside the band. The caterer’s email is the price. See the menu and price guide.

Ask if the number includes cutlery, drinks and serving utensils, or is food only. Ask if delivery, a dock fee or parking is extra, and if buffet gear and a pickup are included. Ask the minimum, whether HST is on top, the cutoff to lower the count, and what a cancelled week costs.

The same facts on every request

  1. Date, or the weekday if it repeats, plus a backup day.
  2. Eating time and arrival window.
  3. Address, floor, and the area: Yonge and Sheppard, North York Centre, Don Mills, Wynford, Duncan Mill, Lesmill or Downsview.
  4. How many people eat, and the day you confirm.
  5. Boxes, platters or a buffet. Drop-off or staff.
  6. Cuisine, and whether barbecue is in or out.
  7. Counts for halal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and nut-aware meals, including two labels on one person.
  8. Dock, parking, sign-in, elevator and any flame rule.
  9. A planning ceiling from the ranges above. It is a ceiling, not a bid.
  10. On-site name and mobile, and the invoice name if accounts payable needs one.

Send it on the contact form.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cook or deliver corporate lunches in North York?

No. We match you with an independent caterer. We do not cook, deliver, staff or run a kitchen. They invoice you if you book.

How far ahead should we ask?

Send the request when the date and a working headcount are real. Simple boxes can move faster than a halal, gluten-free or nut-aware order. We do not hold the date.

Boxes or platters in a North York tower?

Boxes when people eat at desks or on more than one floor. Platters or a buffet when one room holds everyone and the building allows the hot holding.

Can one drop-off cover halal, vegetarian, gluten-free and nut-free?

Only if the caterer agrees in writing. Give a count for each label. “No nuts in this box” is not a nut-free kitchen.

What do we tell them about the building?

Address, floor, arrival window, and what the building said about the dock or lot, sign-in, elevator and flame. Add the mobile number of the person meeting the driver.

Can a weekly lunch run without a contract with you?

Yes. You and the caterer set the weekday, the cutoff and the price. Try one week. They invoice you if it continues.
