Wedding Catering in Oakville: Barbecue and Other Menus
Wedding catering in Oakville depends on the room as much as the menu. A banquet hall, a garden estate, a Bronte backyard and a lakeside park do not take the same service. Toronto BBQ Catering matches couples with independent local caterers for weddings in Oakville and the rest of Halton. We do not cook, grill, staff the reception or run a kitchen. We introduce a partner caterer on a shared email thread. They quote, cook and invoice you if you book. Use the request form. Figures below are rough typical GTA ranges, not a package from us. See the menu and price guide.
Start with the venue, then the menu
Oakville sits on Lake Ontario between Mississauga and Burlington, in Halton Region. Caterers usually come by the QEW or Highway 403. Name the area: Old Oakville, Bronte, Glen Abbey, Palermo, the Uptown Core, Iroquois Ridge or another neighbourhood.
In the first note, include the date and a backup, ceremony and dinner times, the venue type, any outside-caterer fee, whether flame is allowed, the guest count (vendors included if they eat), the menu direction and dietary counts.
Wedding catering is the match when the meal is not only barbecue. A barbecue-led day can also be requested as wedding BBQ catering. We do not book the room, the tent or the photographer.
Halls, wineries, backyards and the waterfront
Banquet halls
Halls in Oakville and Halton often keep a preferred-caterer list, a short load-in and a hard end time. Some require their own caterer. Others allow an outside caterer and add a fee, corkage or a cake-cutting charge. Write what the coordinator told you.
If their kitchen is closed to you, food is cooked off site and held in the room. Ask who supplies plates and linens, and whether chafing fuel is allowed. Indoor BBQ options in the GTA covers rooms that ban a live grill.
Wineries and garden estates
A Halton garden and a Niagara Bench winery are different drives, even when the couple lives in Oakville. Ask about liquor rules, any vendor list, the rain room, parking for the van, and whether a grill may sit outside. A trip past Bronte toward Beamsville or Jordan, plus an early load-in or a venue fee, should be its own line on the quote. If the site only accepts listed caterers, say so. We cannot override that.
Backyards and private homes
Old Oakville and Bronte often mean a garden, a narrow street and little parking. Glen Abbey, West Oak Trails and River Oaks may have more driveway and still restrict noise, tents or outside vendors. We do not visit the house. Say where a van stops and whether a grill is allowed. If flame is banned, ask for food finished at the caterer’s kitchen. On-site grilling versus drop-off is that choice at wedding scale.
Waterfront and parks
Bronte Harbour, Oakville Harbour and lakeside parks need a permit a private yard does not. A picnic booking is not permission for a caterer, propane or a tent. Ask the Town of Oakville and put the answer on the request. We do not pull permits. Many sites have no kitchen, so a buffet or boxes is more realistic than a long plated dinner.
Barbecue, or a different menu
Barbecue suits a backyard, a garden, or a hall that wants a carving station. A live grill needs permission for flame. Food cooked off site can still be barbecue if the venue bans a pit.
A barbecue reception
Ask for two or three mains, a few sides, and something fresh. Brisket, pulled pork, chicken, ribs or a vegetarian main are requests for the caterer to confirm.
- Drop-off. Pans arrive and someone on your side watches the food.
- Staffed buffet or family-style. The caterer’s crew sets up, serves and packs their gear.
- Carving or a live grill. Only where flame and space are allowed. Leave time for it.
How to plan BBQ catering for a GTA wedding goes further on service style. If the tone is still open, read BBQ catering versus traditional catering.
Other menus couples ask for
- Buffet or plated. Chicken, fish and a vegetarian main. Plated service needs more staff.
- South Asian. Rice, vegetarian mains, a meat curry and a note on heat, or a station beside another menu.
- Halal. The whole meal, or only some guests. Mixed service needs separate pans, utensils and labels.
- Family-style. Platters on the table. Ask what those tables can hold.
- Cocktail reception. Passed bites or a board instead of a seated dinner. Hours and headcount both move the price.
A caterer may cover barbecue and another menu, or only one of them. Ask which.
Dietary needs for two guest lists
Send counts from the RSVPs, not “a few vegetarians.”
- Halal. Whole order or a counted subset. Pork, and alcohol in a glaze, belong on the label. Halal catering questions apply even when the menu is not barbecue.
- Vegetarian and vegan. A labelled main, not the salad. See vegetarian and vegan options.
- Gluten-free. Ask about buns, gravy, soy sauce and dessert, and for a separate container with its own spoon.
- Nut allergies. “No nuts on this plate” is not a nut-free kitchen. Ask what they will confirm in writing.
- Children and vendors. A milder kids’ plate, and whether a photographer or DJ is in the headcount.
When to ask, and how the day runs
We do not hold dates. A Saturday from late spring through early fall is wiser several months ahead. Send a closer date with a backup day. See how far in advance to book catering.
Ask if a tasting is included. We do not host tastings. Walk ceremony, photos, cocktails, dinner, speeches and any late snack, often a second price. Ask when the final count is due. Portions for a barbecue menu are in how much food to plan per person.
Questions that make two quotes comparable
Ask each caterer the same questions, or the prices will not compare.
- Are you free, or is another event already held?
- What does this kind of site need from you?
- Are staff, linens, plates, travel, tax and any service charge included?
- Who pays a venue fee, corkage or cake cutting?
- What are the final-count date, deposit and cancellation terms?
- Where is the food prepared, and who leads on site?
- How do halal, vegetarian, gluten-free and allergy plates stay separate?
- What do you haul away?
We do not invoice you. The name on the bill is the caterer’s.
What caterers often quote
We do not set prices. As a rough typical GTA range, in Canadian dollars, caterers often quote drop-off around $18 to $35 per person, a staffed meal about $35 to $90, and a live grill or carving station around $40 to $75 when the site allows it. Plated service, rentals, travel, tax or a Saturday can sit outside that. The caterer’s email is the price. See the cost guide and the menu page, then ask for a written quote.
How to request quotes
On the request form, choose Oakville, wedding as the event, and drop-off, full-service, a live station, or not sure yet. Tick every cuisine that applies. Barbecue can be one of them.
In the notes, add the venue type, neighbourhood, flame rules, dietary counts, meal times and any outside-caterer fee. We introduce an independent caterer on a shared email thread. If you want a second introduction, say so. Nothing is signed with us. If you book, they invoice you. We stay out of the kitchen.
Frequently asked questions
Do you cater weddings in Oakville?
No. We match couples with independent caterers. We do not cook, staff the wedding or run a kitchen. The caterer invoices you.
Can one request include barbecue and another menu?
Yes. Name both, with a count for each if you know it. The caterer confirms what they cook.
Do parks and harbour sites allow a grill?
Ask the Town of Oakville. A picnic booking is not permission for propane or a caterer. Put their answer on the form.
How far ahead should a Saturday wedding go out?
Several months is wiser from late spring through early fall. We do not hold the date. Send a backup if the day is soon.
What if the hall has a preferred caterer?
Some halls require that caterer. Others allow an outside one and charge a fee. Write the rule in the notes.
Who sets the price?
The caterer. Figures here are typical GTA ranges. Ask for staff, rentals, travel and tax on the quote.
Send the wedding request
When the date, venue type and a working guest count are real, use the request form. We introduce a partner caterer for an Oakville or Halton wedding. If you book, they cook and serve. We do not.
